Berkeley Heights is a township in Union County, New Jersey and has a population of 13,183. Previously inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans, the first European settler in the area was in 1720. The area grew and became known as New Providence Township, however, changed its name to Berkely Heights Township in 1952 to separate it from its adjacent municipality, New Providence Borough. More recently, Berkeley Heights was ranked 6th in the nation in Money Magazine’s 2013 Best Places to Live.
